John Abraham and Sharvari’s highly anticipated action drama, Vedaa, is slated for an August 15 release, coinciding with Independence Day. The film will face stiff competition from Stree 2 and Khel Khel Mein, a situation that might have been avoided had Vedaa debuted on its originally planned date of July 12.
While initial reports suggested that a delay in certification from the CBFC was responsible for the postponement, director Nikkhil Advani has clarified that the change was a strategic decision.
Nikkhil Advani Explains the Real Reason Behind Vedaa’s Release Delay
Advani had previously shared that Vedaa was submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on June 25. Although the board formed a revising committee to review the film due to its intense themes, and eventually passed it with a U/A certificate after nine cuts, Advani emphasizes that the release delay was not due to these issues.
In an interview with India Today, Advani explained that they anticipated potential CBFC delays and applied for certification well in advance. “There’s a process and certain protocols that you need to follow, and we knew that—that’s why we applied eight weeks in advance,” he said.
Advani chose August 15 for Vedaa‘s release, citing Independence Day as a strategic date for the film’s debut. “August 15 is the best time to release a film. ‘Satyamev Jayate’ and ‘Batla House’ were both successful releases on August 15, so we’re hoping for a third time lucky,” he added. Advani produced Satyamev Jayate (2018) and directed Batla House (2019), both of which also premiered on August 15.
Vedaa is inspired by real events and follows a woman (Sharvari) battling a repressive system, supported by a man (John Abraham) who discovers his true self through her struggle. The film also features Abhishek Banerjee, Tamannaah Bhatia, Ashish Vidyarthi, Kumud Mishra, and Rajendra Chawla in significant roles.
