Advance Bookings Showdown: Stree 2 Surges Ahead, While Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein Struggles with Low Numbers

Date:

Advance bookings for Stree 2 starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao are soaring, with strong ticket sales signaling high anticipation for the horror-comedy sequel. In contrast, Akshay Kumar’s comedy Khel Khel Mein is seeing surprisingly low numbers, raising concerns ahead of its release.

Independence Day Box Office Showdown: Stree 2 Generates Massive Demand, While Khel Khel Mein Struggles to Keep Up

Stree 2 and Khel Khel Mein are set for a box office clash on Independence Day, but it’s clear that Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao’s horror-comedy sequel is stealing the spotlight. The demand for Stree 2 is so high that the makers have added night shows on the 14th, and even those are nearly sold out across the country. This is shaping up to be the biggest opening of both Kapoor and Rao’s careers, driven by the success and popularity of the original 2018 film.

In contrast, Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein, a comedy based on an Italian film where secrets are revealed and relationships unravel during a game, is facing a lukewarm response. Despite a star-studded cast including Fardeen Khan, Taapsee Pannu, Vaani Kapoor, Ammy Virk, and Pragya Jaiswal, this marks Kumar’s third release of 2024 following Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Sarfira, but it’s struggling to gain traction in advance bookings.

Stree 2 Advance Bookings

According to reports, Stree 2 has already sold 124,402 tickets, raking in ₹4.09 crore in advance sales. Film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted that the sequel is poised to be a blockbuster, with pre-sales rapidly increasing and indicating a phenomenal opening.

Khel Khel Mein Lags Behind

Meanwhile, Khel Khel Mein has only managed to collect ₹8.74 lakh from 2,042 tickets sold. Surprisingly, even John Abraham’s Vedaa has outperformed it, selling 5,969 tickets and earning ₹18.09 lakh so far.

Producer Dinesh Vijan on Stree 2

At the trailer launch, producer Dinesh Vijan described Stree 2 as the “mothership” of their horror-comedy universe, promising that it will answer many questions left open by the first film. He also teased the next film, Thama, and revealed that Stree 3 is already written, with a shorter gap between releases.

Vijan emphasized that Stree 2 is “bigger, madder, crazier,” and assured audiences that the film will be Maddock Films’ most entertaining release, packed with visual effects reserved for the theatrical experience. With Stree 2 coming six years after the original blockbuster, which remains Rajkummar Rao’s biggest hit, it’s poised to break new records and surpass the ₹124 crore mark at the box office.
