New CCTV Footage Reveals BTS’ SUGA’s Route Before Fall from Electric Scooter; Implications for DUI Investigation
BTS’ SUGA’s DUI case has gained fresh attention with the release of new CCTV footage. The recent clip, which counters earlier footage deemed ‘fake,’ shows the rapper’s route on an electric scooter before he fell after a sharp turn. The footage captures him passing police officers on the sidewalk before falling in front of his residence.
On August 14, TV Chosun aired the new CCTV footage, which depicts SUGA riding slowly on a designated sidewalk in Hannam-dong. The video shows him encountering police officers and then falling from his scooter in front of his house. He is seen quickly getting back up.
Following the release of this footage, HYBE confirmed the individual in the video is indeed SUGA, leading to the discrediting of a previous CCTV clip shown by JTBC Newsroom as fake.
In his initial statement, SUGA claimed he rode the electric scooter for only 500 meters under the influence of alcohol. This claim was questioned following the initial CCTV footage. However, a report by Donga Ilbo supports SUGA’s statement, noting that the distance between his friend’s house and his studio apartment in Nine One Hannam is approximately 500 meters.
SUGA’s DUI incident became widely reported after he was allegedly seen by a patrolling officer following his fall. He was taken to the local police station, given an initial statement, and then returned to his residence. Reports indicated his blood alcohol content was around 0.227%, significantly exceeding South Korea’s legal limit. Although the exact figure remains undisclosed, speculation about potential criminal charges continues as his vehicle was deemed a non-personal mobility device.
