Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2, released in August 2023, marked a major comeback for Bollywood, ending a dry spell at the box office. On the film’s one-year anniversary, director Anil Sharma shared his reflections exclusively with us, celebrating the blockbuster success of the film starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel.
The sequel to the 2001 hit Gadar, which premiered on August 11, 2023, saw Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel reprise their iconic roles as Tara Singh and Sakina. During the special Independence Day release, fans flocked to theaters, showering their love on the film.
Discussing the significance of Gadar 2‘s success, Sharma remarked, “For me, Gadar 2 is not just a film; it is an emotion for the entire nation.” He added, “People embraced Gadar 1 with their hearts and were eagerly waiting for Gadar 2. We worked hard on it. I always said I would make Gadar 2 only when I had an emotional bomb to explode. When that emotion came and Gadar 2 was made, and the public received it as they did, my heart was definitely filled with joy.”
Sharma reminisced about watching the film’s reviews with his wife and getting emotional as they read the effusive praise. He recalled calling Sunny Deol, and they all ended up in tears together, moved by the public’s response. “We felt that our hard work had paid off and that God had blessed us. Whatever we create is for the public to appreciate. When the public likes it, one can’t help but feel immense happiness,” he concluded.
Following the success of Gadar 2, Sharma has confirmed that a third installment of the beloved franchise is in the works.
