Follow Kar Lo Yaar Series Review: An Exhausting Peek into Uorfi Javed’s Life

Date:

Uorfi Javed’s Follow Kar Lo Yaar offers a glimpse into the life of the social media sensation, but the series often crosses into uncomfortable territory. The show’s constant presence of the camera creates a voyeuristic feel, turning personal moments—such as family arguments, business discussions, and therapy sessions—into public spectacles. While it aims to show Uorfi beyond her provocative online persona, it soon falls into a repetitive cycle with little new to offer.

The series doesn’t solely focus on Uorfi; it also features her family—sisters Asfi, Uruusa, Dolly, and their mother, Zakia Sultana. Rather than depicting a loving family dynamic, the show highlights their unresolved issues and frequent conflicts, which quickly become the focal point. The constant bickering seems engineered to provide shock value, overshadowing any deeper exploration of their relationships. The frequent first-person commentary from family members adds to the sensationalism rather than contributing to a meaningful narrative.

Directed by Sandeep Kukreja, the series includes performances from Uorfi Javed, Asfi Javed, Uruusa, Zakia Sultana, Dolly, Sameer Aslam, Aakanksha Gupta, Shraddha Mohanti Chadha, and Ruslaan Zala. Available on Prime Video, the series leans heavily on shock value—a familiar territory for Uorfi, who admits in an episode that her public persona thrives on creating a sensation. She acknowledges the nature of her online presence, stating, “I don’t have fans, I have haters,” reflecting on the trolling she faces for her bold fashion choices.

Despite some critical moments, such as Uorfi’s candid conversations with other artists like Orry and Munawar Faruqui, which reveal insights about fame and relevance, the series often fails to delve deeply into her vulnerabilities. In the final episode, Uorfi’s stage performance is portrayed as spectacular by her team, though it appears ordinary. This editing choice undermines the series’ attempt at authenticity, highlighting Uorfi’s insecurities rather than providing an honest portrayal of her journey.

The series includes some genuine moments, especially in Uorfi’s interactions with other artists. Her conversations with Orry and Munawar Faruqui offer brief but insightful reflections on fame and personal growth. However, these moments are overshadowed by the repetitive and superficial aspects of her daily life, leading to a feeling of exhaustion by the third episode. The show’s attempt to explore Uorfi’s inner world is diluted by its focus on the mundane and sensational, leaving viewers with a fragmented and less engaging experience.
