Veteran filmmaker-actor Satish Kaushik, known for directing popular films like Tere Naam, Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain, and Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai, is making his directorial comeback after a six-year hiatus with Kaagaz, starring the immensely talented Pankaj Tripathi. Presented by Salman Khan Films and produced by Salma Khan, Nishant Kaushik, and Vikas Malu, Kaagaz is a satirical comedy based on the real-life story of Lal Bihari Mritak, a man declared dead by the government.
The film, which is set to release on ZEE5 and in theaters in Uttar Pradesh, marks a significant project for Kaushik. He expressed that working on Kaagaz allowed him to reinvent himself both as an artist and director.
Explaining why he chose this project after such a long break, Kaushik said, “I came across the story of Lal Bihari Mritak many years ago and was deeply moved by his journey. His fight to prove he was alive was both tragic and filled with humor, which made me want to tell this story. Directing this film was a learning experience for me as filmmaking has evolved over time. I’m thankful to have Salman Khan Films and ZEE5 on board and am confident audiences will connect with the story.”
The film’s trailer has already garnered praise for its unique mix of humor and tragedy. Pankaj Tripathi plays the role of Bharat Lal Mritak, the man fighting for his existence, while Satish Kaushik himself portrays his lawyer in this thought-provoking story. Kaagaz is set to hit screens on January 7.
